JAL Starts Introducing Premium Economy Class on International Routes to USA August 10, 2009: Japan Airlines' American Region headquarters announced today that tickets are now available for sale in JAL Premium Economy between Chicago – Tokyo (JL009/010) and Los Angeles – Tokyo (JL061/062) for travel from October 25, 2009*. This date coincides with the carrier's expansion of its new Boeing 777-300ER four-class service to these transpacific routes.

Japan Airlines (JAL) newest cabin class Premium Economy,Offering the ultimate in in-flight comfort, JAL Premium Economy class was first unveiled on the airline's daily flight between London and Tokyo LHR NRT(JL401/402) on December 1, 2007, and the service has since expanded to JAL's Frankfurt – Tokyo FRA NRT route (JL407/408). From April 2, 2008, JAL Premium Economy Class will be gradually introduced on JAL flights between Tokyo and Paris NRT CDG(JL405/406).
Located in its own exclusive cabin area, JAL PE class features the new JAL Sky Shell Seat, the world's first shell-shaped seat in premium economy class. A total of 46 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration will be available in the new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that will operate these transpacific flights.

The JAL Sky Shell Seat offers a 120 degree angle of recline, an 18.9-inch (48cm) seat width, and a 38-inch (97cm) seat pitch – 20% more legroom than available in coach class. The hard shell design, inspired by the carrier's award-winning JAL Shell Flat Seat in business class, features a sliding seatback that ensures that every passengers' private space is maintained throughout the flight, undisturbed even when the seat in front is reclined.

The JAL Sky Shell Seat is equipped with a power outlet suitable for a laptop or other small electronics. Amenities provided to customers in JAL Premium Economy are the same as in the carrier's business class including ear plugs, eye and moisture masks, a toothbrush set, slippers and extra-large blankets and pillows.

Noise-cancelling headphones, which significantly reduce unwanted background noise, are provided in JAL Premium Economy and passengers can enjoy over 130 channels of inflight entertainment on individual 9-inch TV monitors. The MAGIC-III in-flight system also features audio-visual-on-demand (AVOD) technology.

In addition to the wide selection of inflight meals and beverages normally available in the carrier's economy class menu, JAL Premium Economy passengers are served other refreshments and snacks such as champagne, instant noodles and ice cream during their journey.

JAL Premium Economy customers can check-in at dedicated counters at Tokyo's Narita airport and at JAL Executive Class counters in airports outside of Japan. Prior to departure, customers are welcome to relax in the JAL Sakura Lounge. JAL Priority Baggage Service and JAL Flight Caddie Service are also available.

Passengers purchasing JAL coach class and the new JAL Premium Value fares are eligible to book in JAL Premium Economy Class.
